62 1/2″ x 22 1/2″ x 35 1/2″ Finished with linseed oil and shellac. $12,000.
Designed as a serving and storage piece opposite a dinning table, and inspired by both the Federal style and the simplicity of the Shakers, this sideboard is built in black walnut and sugar maple. The generous top surface is large enough for plenty of bowls and platters. The center bay has four deep pull out trays for table linens, place matts, napkins or anything else large and flat. There are two smaller pull out trays above for serving utensils, and other smaller items. All the trays are dovetailed by hand; the bottoms are lined in green baize. The tall side bays can easily store candle stick holders or large center pieces. There are two adjustable shelves per compartment.
The exterior surfaces of this particular piece have been treated with an oxidizing agent to achieve a natural color only possible after years of UV light exposure. This is the only “stain” option I offer. However, I can build this in natural walnut, maple, white oak or Honduran mahogany.
